Abstract

Chitosan-g-poly (acrylic acid-itaconic acid)/Montmorillonite CS-g-poly (AAC-Co-IA)/MMT nanocomposite were synthesized and used as adsorbents for adsorption using a free radical polymerization technique of Brilliant Cresyl Blue BCB dye. The nanocomposite was described using X-ray diffraction, Field-Emission Scanning electron microscopy, and measurements of the point of zero charge pHpzc. In batch mode, the synthesized adsorbent's adsorption performance was investigated. Experimental data used adsorption kinetics to examine the nature and mechanism of adsorption processes. The adsorption was found to follow the pseudo-second-order rate equation. This research reveals the intriguing features and practical potential of nanocomposite as a highly efficient adsorbent in removing BCB dye from an aqueous solution. The maximum adsorption capacity was 19.97mg/g for the nanocomposite.
