Abstract

Background: Child development is a dynamic process of optimally utilizing the genetic potential of a baby, within the context of the environment made available to enable the child to achieve the full potential. Development is aimed at enabling the person to adapt to the environment in which he/she lives. A lot of therapies put forth on developmental changes. Newborns with low optimality score are considered highly to develop neurodevelopment disabilities later in life. Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) are syndromes of central nervous system development characterized by extensive deficits in a wider range of functional fields, including cognition, social communication, motor skills, adaptive functioning, self-regulation, attention, and memory. So high risk identification helps neonate to get more attention in the form of screening and early intervention. Aim: This research aims to compare the neuro-developmental outcomes after one year of age in high-risk babies and normal babies in the form of tone, mental, motor, vision, and hearing. And to reveal any possible association between socio-economic factors of parents and neuro-developmental outcome. As well, to test if identification and stratification of high risk helps in early intervention.Method: The data will be collected from electronic files of patient at the same duration from Hakeem program. random sampling technique will be used to enroll 100 babies in Prince Hashim bin Abdullah II outpatient clinic, and 100 high risk babies admitted to NICU in the duration between April - 2019 to March – 2022. The outcome of these babies will be retrospectively analyzed.
