Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a serious public health concern across the world since it is so common and is linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Hypertension is the underlying cause of around 20% of fatalities worldwide. Hypertension was found to be prevalent in 22 percent of the world's population in 2014, resulting in 9.4 million deaths1 and 211.8 million lost disability-adjusted life-years. Hypertension is mostly caused by one's way of living. Inadequate treatment and inability to detect illnesses are known to be linked to poor control.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effectiveness of a self–care instructional program on hypertensive patients' outcomes by assessing participants' quality of life and knowledge about hypertension self–care management before and after the program.

Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used on 85 hypertensive patients who were sent to the AL-Najaf Center for Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Catheterization for clinical consultation. During the study, patients were recruited on a non-probability (purposive) basis and randomly allocated to one of two groups: the study group (50 patients) or the comparison group (35 patients). The researcher gave instructions to the study group. The comparable group is the one that has not been trained by the researcher. Outcomes: The current study's findings showed that the study group of hypertension patients improved when compared to those in a control group. Conclusion: The main conclusion based on the study finding and discussion the instructional program improves self-care management of patient with hypertension. Recommends: Comprehensive and extensive population studies can be conducted to determine the effectiveness of another instructional program in reducing complications, especially for patients with hypertension.
